District Governor Elect

Sandra Hempstead is Rotary 6960 District Governor Elect Nominee

Sandra was born and raised in Connecticut. She graduated high school and diploma nursing school in CT. Sandra received a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from St Louis University and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Missouri in St Louis.

Sandra worked as an Orthopedic/Neurosurgical Nurse and a Nursing Educator, before enjoying a diverse 20-year career with United Health Group. In 2010 Sandra retired from her job with United Healthcare and decided to tackle the larger issues of world health, hunger and poverty.

Since becoming a Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Bonita Springs in 2006, Sandra has led more then 20 International Projects, totaling over $1.5M to deliver clean water and sanitation, provide literacy and primary education; and medical assistance in developing nations. Sandra has received her club’s Service Above Self and Rotarian of the Year awards. She is a recipient of the 2013-2014 Rotary International Service Above Self award, which was given to 150 recipients of the 1.2M Rotarians world wide for exemplary humanitarian service. Sandra is a graduate of Rotary Leadership Institute Levels 1-3. Sandra was President of her club from 2014-2015, and under her leadership her club received both the Presidential Citation and District Governor’s Award. She is the leader of her club’s participation in Rotary International’s Innovative and Flexible Club Pilot. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Foundation of The Rotary Club of Bonita Springs. Sandra has served District 6960 as the Area 3 Assistant Governor (2015-2016), and International Global Grants Chairperson (2011-2016). Sandra is the District Governor Nominee Designate, and will serve as Governor in 2018-2019.

A strong supporter of The Rotary Foundation, Sandra is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow+ 8, a member of the Paul Harris Society, a benefactor, and member of the bequest society Level 5.

Sandra is married to Rotarian Wayne Hemstead and they have two daughters and three granddaughters. Sandra and Wayne are avid travelers, and frequently reach out to Rotary Clubs to visit humanitarian projects around the world.
