The Lee County Parks and Recreation Department presented The Rotary Club of Estero with a plaque on Earth Day, April 22, in recognition of club’s monetary contribution of $4,000 donated to the department toward the purchase of more than 40 trees that were planted in Estero Park on March 14, 2018.  Kathryn Ball, senior supervisor with Lee County Parks and Recreation, presented Club President Tom Patricca with the plaque. Donation benefits children’s summer reading program

Many children lose reading skills when they’re away from school over the summer. That’s why the Rotary Club of Fort Myers South has teamed with the Friends of Lee County Libraries to give to the Lee County Library System’s Summer Reading Program. Linda Smith of the Rotary Club of Cape Coral Sunset shares her experiences with Midwest Medical Missions and a recent mission to San Pedro, Dominican Republic, February 11-16, 2018. The Midwest Medical Missions was founded in 1982 by Dr. Pablo Pons and his wife, Maria, a Pharmacist, who were Rotarians in Toledo, Ohio.   Dr. Pons passed away in 2015 and is greatly missed.  His daughter, Lilia Palmer, and wife, Maria, continue to be very instrumental in the mission. Membership Matters – April 2018

Membership figures to 31 March indicate that District 6960 is showing a net membership increase of 27 members, a net gain of 14 members over the past month.  Our current membership is 2,313 compared to 2,286 back on July 1st. In terms of membership growth, we remain 6th out of 14 districts in Zone 34, so we have to be reasonably satisfied even though the hard work never ends at club level in both recruitment and retention.
